Elder, Gaffey & Paine, P.C. provides tax planning and compliance, accounting and business consulting services to individuals and closely held businesses. Our current clients span a range of industries,however, all share a common concern: how best to achieve aggressive, yet defensible tax planning that produces the most favorable results possible.

Our team of professionals works cooperatively to provide our clients with the highest quality of service on a personal and responsive basis. We are committed to continuing professional education on the ever-changing tax laws and their implications. This involves keeping current with more than 20 publications and on-line services which report the latest cases, IRS rulings and interpretations. The firm's partners also regularly attend national tax accounting conferences and seminars and maintain membership in all of the major accounting organizations.

Founded in 1986 as a professional corporation under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Elder, Gaffey & Paine, P.C. is a member of the Private Companies Practice Section of The AICPA Division of CPA Firms, the Massachusetts Society of CPAs and the Institute of Business Appraisers. The firm undergoes regular independent peer reviews of its accounting practice and has always received an unqualified opinion.

The principals of the firm each have more than 30 years' experience in the public accounting field, primarily in the areas of tax and business consulting.

Robert P. Elder, C.P.A.

Mr. Elder founded the firm in 1986 and is the managing partner. He holds an MBA degree as well as an undergraduate degree in business administration from Babson College. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has lectured on taxes at a variety of seminars.

Richard J. Gaffey, C.P.A.

Mr. Gaffey, a graduate of Northeastern University, spent 11 years at Arthur Andersen & Co., and international CPA firm, and has lectured on taxes at Northeastern University, Bentley College and at seminars for the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants. Currently, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Boston Estate Planning Council.

Harry R. Paine, Jr., C.P.A.

Mr. Paine holds a masters degree in taxation from Bentley College as well as an undergraduate degree in business administration from Northeastern University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Business Appraisers. He has served on the Federal Taxation, Estate and Financial Planning and Public Relations Committees (chair) of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Jack Downs, C.P.A.

Mr. Downs received his masters degree in taxation from Bentley College and masters degree in business administration from Suffolk University. He earned his bachelor of science degree from Babson College. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.
